Roles

This section contains information about the key frontline roles within our Adult and Children Social Service teams. We’ve also provided information on the Trainee Social Work position, which can lead to employment in either service.

Trainee Social Worker

Wandsworth is a highly rated destination for Trainees. You undertake a programme of learning through work experience, academic study and practice placements. This ensures you develop the full range of social work values, knowledge and skills required to improve the lives of children in need and their families and/or vulnerable adults and their informal carers.

You become a member of a social work team for the duration of the trainee programme. In the first year, you work as a full member of the team and undertake an appropriate range of duties and responsibilities. This includes direct work with children and young people or vulnerable adults, under close supervision.

After 12 months, you are seconded to an appropriate social work course (for either 2 or 3 years depending on the level of degree). You continue to be employed by the Service and receive study leave. On completion you return to frontline work within the borough. Use this link to view the job description
